Mentor253
Mentor253 brings one-on-one, site-based mentoring to two Middle Schools on the Eastside of Tacoma. The program’s primary goal is strengthening connections between members of our community of all ages, and encouraging youth to realize their full academic and personal potential. Mentor253 is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Mentor253’s goal is to build one-on-one mentoring relationships middle school students and caring adults from the community.
  • Our group of mentors is diverse and includes students, working adults, teachers, artists, and people from all over the South Sound (including Eastside natives).
  • We have a “rolling-admissions” policy for mentors and are thrilled to recruit new volunteers at any time.
  • Middle School students and mentors meet once a week for one hour, after school, on school grounds.
  • Mentors and “mentees” have the opportunity to play board games or sports together, do art projects, read, work on homework, and simply hang out and talk.
  • Mentor253 is fueled by the belief that adults and kids share a deep need to feel connected to a supportive community, and the conviction that kids excel with encouragement.
