Proyecto MoLÉ
Proyecto MoLÉ (Movimiento Latino Estudiantil) is a year round program that provides Latino youth, ages 6 to 21, with activities that promote the program’s three core components: academic achievement, personal development, and understanding and pride for the Latino culture. Activities are provided Monday through Thursday, after school from 2:45pm to 6:30pm at McIlvaigh Middle School in Tacoma’s east side. Within each component are activities that are designed to provide participants with the resiliency to overcome challenges, achieve their goals, develop healthy relationships, and become socially responsible, involved members of the community.

Proyecto MoLÉ’s goal is to provide opportunities for Latino youth to develop the capacity to make good choices and become successful members of their communities. Proyecto MoLÉ emphasizes academic achievement, personal development, and cultural identity. Activities are designed to address the needs of youth on multiple levels while providing an environment that strives to achieve the following:
  • Promote a sense of safety
  • Provide appropriate structure
  • Create supportive relationships
  • Develop a sense of belonging
  • Encourage positive social norms and rules for behavior
  • Cultivate responsibility and facilitate meaningful challenges
  • Build skills
  • Recognize the importance of interconnecting and communicating with the different stakeholders in the lives of youth
By providing youth with an environment that increases protective factors that touches on all areas of their lives, the likelihood for them to engage in risky behaviors is reduced. High expectations, acceptance, along with opportunities to explore, create, contribute and belong will provide youth with the foundation necessary to achieve their goals and thrive within all aspects of their lives. Program participants will leave the program with a greater sense of self and confidence, which will allow them to successfully participate in the community, resulting in a stronger and healthier Pierce County.
